Both of these hearings were shameful political circuses, especially Thomas'
. If they had it to do over, probably neither side would play it quite the 
same way; then again, I don't see any evidence of contrition on the part 
of either party. Republicans admitted that sandbagging Clinton judicial 
nominations was a legitimate form a pay-back for Bork and Thomas -- so 
back and forth it goes, both parties claiming the judiciary as their 
political spoils, and neither showing any inclination to put the nation's 
welfare above their own.
