To the complainers.
1. Fred Miller has been making contributions to the list.
Since has has been doing something, of course he can be
criticized. (If he had done nothing, no criticism.)
2. I appreciate Fred's contributions. I do not find every
one of interest, but a number are useful to me, and I
believe others on the list.
3. I will ask Fred, respectfully, so perhaps send a few
less postings to the list. (By the way, they are very
short as he typically sends a subject which describes
the issue and a link. Pretty small bandwidth, that.)
4. Right now, the entire Microsoft vs consumers vs DOJ vs
states vs court appeals is rather in limbo. It is
frustrating, but we do not need to take our frustrations
out on other members of the list.
5. The purpose of this list "Appraising Microsoft" is to
bring to light and discuss issues both pro and con relating
to Microsoft particularly as relates to the issue of their
monopoly and their crushing market power, as well as some
of the horrific business tactics which Microsoft has taken
in the past, to the company's everlasting shame.
6. Personally, Microsoft and their senior management disgust
me, and have since their Basic and DOS days. That is my
opinion, but I try to be totally fair to all opinions in
administrating this list.
7. We -- individually and collectively -- owe Fred Miller an
apology. I have sent him mine off-list.
8. As a result of this incident, actually the results of not
nice comments made by several people, I will not contribute
to the list for 30 days.
9. It is so very easy to throw mud by email. We won't do it
here. Should you disagree with my statement, please email
me off list, or phone me at 703-433-2081.
And Fred, thanks for your contributions. They are appreciated.
But a few people on the list would feel better if you cut your
volume down a bit.
