Dig around on VersionTracker for a little freeware application that checks
your RAM -- some of the third-party chips didn't comply with Apple's specs
and quite a few people discovered that a firmware update Apple posted
about a year ago made their Macs unbootable. I'd be surprised if that was
the source of your problem with OSX, but it could be I suppose.
