The company's Chief Executive Officer, Steve Ballmer, acknowledged 
customer resistance to the new licensing plan during a speech at last week'
s annual meeting with financial analysts.

"I think the fact that our customers probably didn't understand our 
licensing, as well as they might have earlier, makes the transition and 
makes the perceived pain actually higher than perhaps the real pain," he 
said.

[Translation: Pain will be inflicted. Our customers should be better 
informed with respect to the level of pain we will inflict.]
