Veritas Expands Linux Support

Veritas Software Corp. is adding to its Linux-based software=20
line. The company's Cluster Server and ServPoint NAS will work=20
with Red Hat's Linux as well as IBM's AIX, Hewlett-Packard's=20
HP-UX, and Sun Microsystems' Solaris.=20

Cluster Server, which connects servers so one can take over if=20
another fails, will help customers balance workloads across=20
servers automatically, according to the vendor. ServPoint NAS=20
will turn ordinary servers into appliances specializing in file=20
access and storage.=20

The new products could push Linux further into the data center,=20
Giga Information Group analyst Stacey Quandt says, adding that=20
the network-attached storage software "could commoditize that=20
market and threaten EMC and Network Appliance, as well as=20
Microsoft." - Martin J. Garvey
