According to several sources referenced on Slashdot today,
Ziff-Davis is on the verge of bankruptcy. The tech media publishing
house, which was recently separated from its semi-successful ZDNet unit,
is struggling to pay its bills and has almost no cash on hand. They
already eliminated 6 of 15 magazines in the last few months and appear to
be on the verge of killing off a few more. Even flagship publication PG
Magazine is down to under 1 1/4 million subscribers, greatly reducing the
impact of John C Dvorak's crap. A "restructuring" plan will be announced
by Friday. This is their reward for a decade of living inside Microsoft's
anus and destroying any magazines that don't cater to the techno
illiterate small office/home office/housewife Windows user. As the one
reader comment on Linux and Main says, "ultimately, too much kowtowing to
adverstisers becomes transparent. At that point, you have screwed the
pooch."
