If you aren't using OSX I can see why you might not see the point of Cocoa.
  If you are, it's pretty apparent Cocoa is the way OSX is meant to work 
and Carbon is just a stopgap API. Find out what's going on with your Mac. 
I've installed OSX on three Macs and it's solid on all of them.
