I've seen a number of stories today about IBM signing some big deal with 
the German government to provide Linux based systems...

I was under the impression that IBM was a RedHat proponent, but this deal 
seems to be to provide SuSE based systems, which isn't too surprising 
since SuSE is a German company.

Is there much difference between RedHat and SuSE?

If Linux takes off in a big way with the German government, it may well 
get adopted as the preferred OS through the EU. That wouldn't be too bad 
at all...
