"Reader and PR man Alan Wallace turned me on to an interesting Web site=20
dedicated to following politics and technology-Declan McCullagh's=20
Politech (www.politechbot.com). On the site, there is a search engine=20
you can use to look up news on specific issues. This usually reveals=20
numerous items not covered by the mainstream media. So type in DMCA and=20
you'll get en eyeful. What got my attention was an article entitled=20
"DMCA hoedown! Copyright fans party on Capitol Hill on Thursday." This=20
was a press advisory apparently sent out by the proponents of the DMCA=20
in conjunction with some congressional leaders. To read this made me=20
ill. It was an announcement for a May 16 party at the Rayburn House=20
Office Building hosted by the people behind the DMCA, who were listed:=20
Robert Holleyman, president and CEO of the Business Software Alliance;=20
Douglas Lowenstein, the president of the Interactive Digital Software=20
Association; Jean Prewitt, president and CEO of the America Film=20
Marketing Association; Hilary Rosen, president and CEO of the Recording=20
Association of America; Patricia Schroeder, president and CEO of the=20
Association of American Publishers; Eric H. Smith, the president of the=20
International Intellectual Property Alliance; and Jack Valenti,=20
president and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America. Is=20
there even one soul on this list interested in the public's welfare?=20
The invited guests included all the standard Senatorial yes-men such as=20
Biden, Dingell, Hatch, Leahy, and the likes of Barney Frank, a supposed=20
populist."
