Seeking Security After New Warnings=20

For the second day, warnings about terrorist attacks sent stocks=20
south. Investors chose to secure profits after the FBI warned New=20
York law-enforcement officials of a possible threat involving=20
landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge.=20
Tuesday's sell-off wiped out early gains that followed reports of=20
better-than-expected retail earnings and a settlement for Merrill=20
Lynch.

The technology sector suffered the biggest drop. The Nasdaq=20
closed down 37.41 points, or 2.2%, at 1,664.18; and the=20
Information Week 100 fell 7.02 points, or 2.74%, to 249.41. The=20
Dow Jones industrial average fell 123.79 points, or 1.2%, to=20
10,105.71; and the Standard & Poor's 500 index dipped 12 points,=20
or almost 1.1%, to 1,079.88. So far this week, the Dow and the=20
Nasdaq have given up more than half of last week's gains of=20
