In this month's Consumer Reports magazine there is an article on "Computer
Security"
"Regular backups of important data, plus use of antivirus software and a
firewall, are the most important ways to protect your computer's
contents. You can also make yourself less of a target by using
applications that aren't as widely adopted as Microsoft products--Eudora
e-mail, say, or WordPerfect word processing. The following measures
also help ensure that important information or programs on your
computer won't easily be damaged or stolen. "
Though they hint at the monoculture problem, no mention of Linux or OS/2
as alternatives to significantly decrease ones chances of being attacked.
But at least they acknowledge that using something other then microsoft
products is helpful.

"The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic State itself. That in it's essence, is Fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group or by any controlling private power."
