   This is what I've read also. Microsoft's AT&T investment was one of 
the largest it ever made, and they got absolutely nothing out of it 
except some stock worth less than 25% of what it originally cost. AT&T 
has even sued MS again since then, so they didn't even get legal 
insurance from the investment.
