PC-DOS was a flavor of MS-DOS offered by an agreement/licensing between
the hardware vendor (IBM) and Microsoft. Microsoft probably got paid a
little something for each copy of PC-DOS sold.
As far as OS/2 is concerned, Microsoft demonstrated their monopoly power
in killing it by forcing IBM to abandon their marketing for the product
in order to be granted a license to preload Win95.
In any case, the monopoly has been in place from the beginning. It was
a gift from IBM. It didn't spring out of the air full-formed with the
introduction of Windows. =20
