[Am-info] Windows XP refresh ?

I remember reading something about Windows XP being hailed, as Microsoft 
put it, as the most secure version of Windows ever, and subsequently 
reading, about two months later that it had been hacked  pretty badly.

Presumably patches have been issued for many of the reported 
vulnerabilities, but has the product itself, as distributed with new 
computers, been refreshed to include those patches?

How do you identify the precise revision level of Windows anyway?
