The evidence has been growing to show Microsoft does not want
users to "customize" their systems. After all, *they* own the software,
right? Not the user. Where are users going to go?
Now Microsoft is taking away functionality...like networking...such
the little and poor implementation it was. (Dvorak said that XP
couldn't even talk to a Windows 98 box!)
In recent years MS created The Registry. The idea was to organize
libraries (control "DLL hell") and "vet" certain applications, but it
didn't work very well. What ever was said, it wasn't motivated by
altruism.
Even if you believe MS is not very good at programming, the evidence
shows that they care less and less about the user, just the way you
would expect an unregulated monopolist to behave.
I would like to see Dvorak give it up, get a *real* OS that works,
move on, and encourage more to do the same.
