hi all,

heres a news on heise (in german, sorry)
http://www.heise.de/newsticker/data/odi-17.04.02-000/

it says that the police of niedersachsen is going to use linux
11.000 workstattion. before they had used 200 properitary unix
servers together with 5.500 terminals they are working with since
1989.

the workstations will connect to a high-availability servers which
is also built on top of linux.

the software they are going to use is a properitary, self programmed
java software. for general office needs on some stations they will
use staroffice 6 and netscape navigator.

its the first country in germany that switches to linux in that area.
they followed the regards of a police internal group and an
analyses group. the comparsion between linux and windows2000/xp
showed that they will save 20 million euros in ten years with that
solution.

nice one ! [;-)]

greets,

chris
