Sure there is. Gates agreed to "talk to his people about [it]."
This is not a business deal that the two parties were negotiating. This
concerned testifying in court.
Gates should have told the AMD guy, "Sorry, we can't discuss deals and
arrangements with a potential witness," and dropped AMD from its witness
list. That would have been legal and honorable.
Instead, AMD showed up as a pro-Microsoft witness.
