The majority of people who read the computer press probably have
enough knowledge about computers and know better than that. HOWEVER,
people who aren't particularly computer literate and get their news from
more generalized sources are prone to cluelessness about it. Especially
business people - I work with a bunch of MBA business school types and
they all think Bill Gates waved his hand one day and made Windows 95 come
out of nowhere, like God creating man from the dust. Blame Fortune
magazine and CNBC for that one. One of them begged me to bring him my
copy of the movie 'Pirates of Silicon Valley' because he heard it shows
how Gates wasn't everything the press has made him out to be.

"Instead of worrying about whether or not the government will stop
Microsoft from innovating in the future, the head honchos in Redmond
ought to spend some energy trying to figure out what force has
prevented them from innovating over the past decade."
