[Am-info] Ayn Rand Institute?

Rand's most famous comic novels included "Atlas Shrugged" (1957) and "The
Fountainhead" (1946?). She coined the "philosophy" known as "objectivism,"
which was intended to be a rationalization of human ego but in reality is
a prescription for extending what amounts to a teenaged view of life to
and through adulthood -- minus the humiliating acne, of course. Much of
her nonfiction, wherein she expounds upon her "objective" theories is
quite humorous, too. She is much beloved and taken very, very seriously
among free market zealots of all stripes, and especially libertarians, a
group she curiously disavowed during lifetime.

She divided the world up into two groups, the objectivists (good) and the
collectivists (bad). Her novels are likewise segregated into the heroic
and the villainous, very much like Superman comic books, and with about as
much depth and believability. The dialog is similar as well.

For people who subscribe to the Randian view of the world, Bill Gates
would be a pure godhead figure, a brilliant, creative and successful
individual put upon by evil, envious, collectivists (like us) who only
want to ruin our betters.
