For the same reasons, we come out on the opposite sides of the
conclusion.  I, too, own my own business, and therefore cannot
tolerate downtime of essential tools.  By assmbling my own system, I
can choose the most reliable components (those least likely to fail),
and I can usually fix anything that goes south, because I know exactly
what is there.  Most major assemblers (Dell, Gateway, etc.) change
internals as component prices fluctuate, so even if you get a tech on
the line who knows what he (or she) is talking about, he may not be
able to discern what subcomponents are in your computer (and therefore
what drivers, etc. are appropriate).
