I guess I'd fall into the category of hobbyist as well.  I like 
tinkering with these things.  I've got entirely too much older hardware, 
but I can't really let go of it.  I'm hoping to build a cluster some day 
just for fun.

You don't see see that many Windows hobbyists though.  Inspite of the 
number of Windows machines out there, I'd bet there's more alternative 
hobbyists (linux, *bsd, os/2, plan 9, gurd..) then windows hobbyists.

I didn't have to buy my radio from a specific company to listen
to FM, why doesn't that apply to the Internet (anymore...)?
