Okay, you asked....

Well, in reality I started with the one system I purchased
prebuilt/preloaded with win3.11. I then just upgraded it along the way,
video memory, video card, sound card, memory, processor. Once I got to
the point that I had exceeded this box, I purchased a new mb/cpu/memory
and case. I moved the video/sound cards to the new box, and my daughter
inherited my old one. My wife shared mine with me. Eventually, I
upgraded my own box to the extent that I had enough left over 'stuff' to
build my wife her own machine, mostly from parts left from upgrades of
my system. My daughter's machine soon became obsolete for what she
wanted to do, so I did actually build her a new system from scratch,
purchasing everything from separate vendors. The old system went to my
wife's classroom.

At this point, I continue to upgrade parts. My current system is
actually an upgrade from my original, although there's nothing left from
the original system. :)

I've never really gone out and bought all the parts to build a system,
with the exception of my daughters machine. I've always upgraded
existing systems. My wife now uses my old p200mmx system. It's plenty
of box for what she does. My original machine that I bought prebuilt
and loaded with windows 3.11 was in my wife's classroom for a while, now
it's running RH 7.2 and she'll be using it to provide a slideshow during
conference week. It's pretty nice setup in that it boots without a
keyboard or mouse, right into the slideshow presentation. No
keyboard/mouse so that no one can futz with it. If the power it down,
it's using journaling filesystem, so she just reboots it. :)

After scrounging around for a while, I've now got 6 systems in my office
that I've built from 'parts,' my wife's system and my daughters. One of
my firewalls is running the p75 processor from my original prebuilt
system. That box (the original prebuilt) has been upgraded to a p133.

I put together a box for my mother-in-law which is a p166 with 96 meg of
memory. It's runnin RH 7.2. I'm about to upgrade her box to a p200mmx.

I didn't have to buy my radio from a specific company to listen
to FM, why doesn't that apply to the Internet (anymore...)?
