I just heard on CNBC that MS and the DoJ had agreed to some changes in
their proposed settlement, in particular, the paragraph which allows
Microsoft to claim other's patents has been eliminated.
On this patent thing, I wrote to Lou Gerstner asking him if he had
signed over IBM's patent rights to Microsoft. He didn't answer, so I
wrote him again, and a third time. As an IBM stockholder (through my
wife's account) I believe I have a right to know if he did this.
I received a letter, via Airborne Express, from a Frank P. Squillante,
Director of Intellectual Property & Licensing, IBM, Armonk. He wrote
"Unfortunately, IBM treats its patent licensing activities as
confidential and I am unable to provide the information you request."
How 'bout that?
