I tried to install XP on a 2 drive Dell yesterday, which failed because
I can't get the dual boot to work. I have to give credit where credit's
due. MickySoft has done a VERY good job with XP is SOME areas. First,
is hardware detection and driver install.....TOTALLY "behind the
scenes" and accurate. It even assumes 1024x786 on a 17" monitor with
the max. color depth. Eye candy is nice.......much better desktop than
in the past. And, yes......it IS more stable than other releases,
although NOT as solid as Linux.
Now, what I really don't like is it's phoney multi-user, and that it's
VERY difficult to find everything you need for proper security setup
(well, as secure as anything MickySoft can be), or doing any other
"expected" maintenance and tweaking. XP, as CORRECTLY reported, is NOT
true multiuser......it simply task switches between users. If I have a
choice between installing '2000 and XP, I'll install '2000. At least I
have some control over the OS without it taking an act of Congress to
find the "switches" to turn off on on.
