Hi all,

AFAICR (I've lent my copy of "Fire in the Valley" to a friend) the Xerox
Star was the first viable GUI personal computer. Like everything that came
out of PARC (and quite a lot that didn't) it was way ahead of its time.
Although it was not really intended for commercial use, a few were sold to
well-off customers (IIRC, the price ran well into 6 figures). A friend of
mine who worked for McKinsey at the time remembers seeing and perhaps even
touching one, way before the first Apple appeared -- and certainly a long
time before Microsoft went GUI.

Regards,
