I thought Windows came out in 85?  X, which was from MIT went commercial 
in 86, but was being used in the early 80s.

If we want to get real picky, we would have to consider the precursor to 
the 5620 windowing terminal that was built by teletype in 1984.  Layers, 
a windowing system for these devices was available even before then, 
again it was not commercial, but it was patented.  I've got two 730 
layers terminals in my little hardare stash, and I've been planning on 
firing them up, since layers has been ported to Linux. :)

So, where do Apple and Xerox fit into this picture puzzle??
