You're not kidding. This was a key factor for me because I do a lot of
my development on a Linux box, both at work and at home. I originally
got asked to take a look at porting this file system research prototype
(much less complicated than it sounds) over to Mac OS X because I had
written the bits necessary for Linux, and we hoped that a port would be
relatively trivial. It wasn't, but in the process I saw how much WAS
the same. It truly is nearly identical in the core.

In fact, from what I could tell, outside of OS drivers and OS specific
code, it's very similar to BSD and Linux.

In fact, I think we'll see a lot of "Linux" companies getting a boost
from OS X. For example, once the SDL libraries perform well (I don't
know the status, yet. http://www.libsdl.org ), Loki et al should be
able to port games that aren't being released for Mac OS X to both Mac
OS X and Linux. It's theoretically possible, but I'm not sure how well
the libraries perform in reality.

Qt and TrollTech might be another beneficiary of a larger installed
base... we'll see.

Cool. I'll let people know my experiences, if there's interest, over
the next few months as I get further into it

My co-worker is using Eudora at home, and I'm considering downloading
the beta. I may just stick with Mozilla (I still have a Linux box as my
main desktop, and all my mail is there with Evolution).
