EXCLUSIVE READING FOR OPEN MAGAZINE SUBSCRIBERS

The ease-of-integration pitch for IT-buying business customers has had
just one word: BackOffice. Microsoft attracted IT buyers and channel
partners by offering an integrated one-stop solution for information
access and sharing. Now the same game's afoot in the Linux world as
SuSE and IBM join forces in a broad distribution action for Linux & IBM
software solutions. This week, SuSE and IBM executives measure the IT
impact from a deal where SuSE gets to distribute IBM's entire line of
software for Linux.

OpenBench Labs goes beyond what easily looks like a 'PDA on steroids'
to discover quite significant implications for vertical IT
applications. Terapin's pocket data server (PDS), the Mine TX200, runs
Linux and shares data on a LAN; exchanges data over the Internet via
FTP; sends and receives POP3 e-mail; and synchronizes its information
store with Terapin's web-based archive service. It also doubles as a
full-function digital audio player and photo album system in less
stressful moments.

And in the heated-up search for advice on e-mail architecture and MTAs,
senior consultant Kris Buytaert reports what he sees as best solutions.

If you're not using Internet Explorer 6.0, click

If you are running IE 6.0 and have discovered that you can no longer
download a PDF file because Netscape-style plugins are not supported,
click <http://www.open-mag.com/download.htm> and follow the
instructions.

PS: Remember to pass along a copy to friends.
