Because it's easier to "go with the flow" and very hard to change
bad habits. Today, something "new", non-MS, suffers from the
not-invented-here syndrome and threatens past decisions while very
often, without a willingness to even consider change, peoples jobs
could be put on notice. I've seen it first hand.
Whenever I get a foot in the door to do better it is imperative I
keep the focus on saving bucks: how hardware is a commodity,
that changeover/training costs are minimized, and cost of ownership
will win out. Such focus MUST be endeared to the top decision
makers and initially levelled at the server side. Winning a client's
trust is not easy in the MS environment and some initial concessions
in the form of "loss leaders" are likely, maybe like working with
their other vendors, offering better warranties and stellar support.
Gotta have solid answers to all the objections.
