[Am-info] Recalling XP

Why don't consumer groups in the US demand that MS recall XP?

If Ford or GoodYear released a product known to be faulty they would soon
be in big trouble, yet computer shops will carry on stacking their shelves
with a product which MS have admitted has serious security flaws. With
every other manufacturer the onus is on the manufacturer themselves to try
and fix their mistake. With XP it is up to the consumer to attempt to
download and apply any patches, and in the attempt they are opening
themselves up to being hacked by other systems on the Internet. How many
people using XP have been trained to apply patches? Why don't Microsoft
attempt to contact every purchaser and attempt to fix their computer
**for FREE**?

At the very least consumer groups should demand XP is immediately withdrawn
and not replaced until a bug fixed retail product is available.

Any retailer who is currently selling copies of XP or computers with XP
pre-installed which they must know are subject to this acknowledged
security flaw must be liable to any damages resulting from hacking or data
loss. To continue to sell these product or at least not to include some
huge disclaimer about using XP *at your own risk* seems like an extremely
negligent act.

I thought Americans were particularly litigious... this seems like a good
opportunity to sue all the big manufacturers and retailers...
