Not to mention the fact that VSS sucks so badly I can't even begin to
believe it.
It was a battle at my job too. We're using CVS running on a Linux box.
The biggest obstacle with CVS is that people object to the lack of a
good, well-tested GUI front end for it. Not even well-tested... just
one that conforms to the "Microsoft Windows Way" of doing things.
Of course, my boss (CTO) is a huge Mac person (has a dual G4 on his desk
with the cinema flat screen display), and wouldn't care if I were
running Plan 9 on my desktop (I run a heavily modified installation of
RedHat, which also annoys the Windows folks).
Of course, as a result of these choices, more people are seeing my
technical concerns with MSFT software, and beginning to understand the
impact of the choices MSFT makes with their software.
