I don't think you understand.  The decision by the folks who sold the 
hardware systems to not support the folks who wrote the software was not 
likely to have been made by gerstner, but rather ignored by him due to 
incompetence of the sort large companies are filled with.  Don't look 
for extreme answers unless extreme incompetence is it.  Extreme 
incompetence is the only extremist answer consistently accurate in 
describing organizations.  Much more likely is that one VP hated another 
VP intensely, though I don't have knowledge of that being true in this 
instance.
