(I of course am disappointed that my state, Illinois, publically
announced it wanted to sign the original deal with MS/DOJ. Could it
be that the Illinois AG saw the case as an unpopular one and thinks
settling it will help him in his upcoming run for governor? Anyway,
despite government denials, the whole settlement smacked of some sense
of political expediancy as in this story "Rush to Settle" at
"http://www.washtech.com/news/regulation/13542-1.html" indicates and
the non-political DOJ staff recommended against the settlement.)
