Because they don't know!
People have been brainwashed into thinking that Windows is an absolute
requirement for using a PC. After all, you buy a brand new computer,
switch it on, and you see those nice fluffy clouds immediately. No one
asked if you wanted Windows with your PC. You didn't have to install it so
it must be part of your computer...
The concept of the 'Microsoft Tax' is lost on most people because they
think Windows comes free with their computer or is somehow built in.

The problem is knowing which consumer group to pick. There seem to be so
many and if everyone picks a different group then you are perceived as a
lone troublemaker or eccentric without a legitimate complaint.
Isn't Ralph Nader some big shot consumer group leader? I thought he was at
the forefront of anti-MS activity among conumer groups some time ago.
