Erick and all,
There is no point in contacting Judge Kollar-Kotely.
There will be a public comment period, but that will do
you no good at all if both the DOJ and states agree to
the farce of a settlement.
It is very very important that TODAY to contact your
attorney general, in your state, and aggressively as hell
demand his office continue the suit.
It is best to do this by phone call -- just takes a minute.
No point is discussion, just ask the operator to connect
you to someone concerned with the Microsoft case, ask their
name and ask them to make a record of your statement, then
say something like my statement below. If you wish, while
on the phone ask their fax number and dash off a quick fax.
The judge is holding a conference tomorrow morning concerning
the case -- SO TAKE A MINUTE AND CALL THE ATTORNEY GENERAL
IN YOUR STATE NOW.
You can find quick access to all attorney general office phone
nubers at: http://www.naag.org/about/ag1.cfm as well as the
Microsoft case documents.
I just called my Virginia wimp of an AG with this statement:
- My name is Xxxxx Xxxxx.
- I am a resident of city, state.
- I am calling as a private citizen.
- The settlement proposed by the U.S. Department of Justice
is a pathetic, transparent sham -- a sellout to Microsoft.
- If allowed to stand, this settlement will do great harm
to the computer field, harm to all the good people in
our state who work in computer companies other than
Microsoft, or users who would like to have choice
rather than an aggressive monopolist dictate to them.
- If the states Attorneys General do not pursue the case
on their own, not only will it harm our citizens but
also has the potential, through the .Net initiative
already being pursued by Microsoft, of DESTROYING the
Internet as the free and open resource it is today.
- I CONSIDER THE DECISION BY YOUR OFFICE TO PURSUE THE
MICROSOFT ANTITRUST CASE THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT
ACTION YOUR OFFICE WILL TAKE THIS YEAR.
- DO NOT DROP THE MICROSOFT CASE, RATHER, I ASK YOU PURSUE
IT AGGRESSIVELY.
