If we have a Republican administration, there will be a replacement
for Janet Reno; in fact, it is likely that Gore will/would rreplace
Janet Reno. At that time, it would not be mandatory, but it would be
customary, for Klein to tender his resignation to the new attorney
general. If the new attorney general is a Republican, the resignation
will be accepted, without any attempt to convince Klein to stay. If
the attorney general is a Democrat, there might be a request to Klein
to stay, but I would not bet the mortgage that Klein will be persuaded
to stay.
