Jean-Louis Gassee, Ed Black, Tim O'Reilly, and others on the subject of
Microsoft and innovation....

   "I'd love to see their list ... of where they think they've made major
   innovations," Black said. "I've never seen one that was very real or
   persuasive."

   Asked for such a list, Microsoft first responded with a short email. 
   "We were able to find examples of strong evidence of Microsoft's
   innovation over the last 5-10 years ... our work on the GUI, 32-bit OS,
   XML, etc., are examples."

   Pressed for more specifics, the company provided a list that was largely
   a compendium of little-known improvements to existing technologies.
