In conjunction with the A2K3 conference taking place this September 8-10,
the Yale ISP and the IJCLP will host a writing competition, details below.
Please note that this year's competition includes a special award, the
Kaltura Prize, which will include travel and accommodation for the winning
author to accept the award at the A2K3 conference.  Please circulate as

*Kaltura Writing Competition and Call for Papers*

*The Yale ISP's Third Conference on*

*Access to Knowledge (A2K3)*

The Information Society Project at Yale Law School (Yale ISP) and the
International Journal of Communications Law and Policy (IJCLP) are pleased
to announce their fifth interdisciplinary writing competition and call for
papers in conjunction with the Third Access to Knowledge (A2K3) Conference
taking place on September 8-10, 2008 in Geneva, Switzerland.

We invite students, scholars, policy-makers, technologists, activists, and
industry representatives to submit papers on access to knowledge (A2K) and
communications law and policy for publication by the IJCLP.  Submissions
must be received by June 30th to be considered for the A2K3 writing
competition.

The authors of the selected papers will be invited to publish their work in
a special volume of the International Journal of Communications Law and
Policy, *http://www.ijclp.net* <http://www.ijclp.net/>, in memoriam of
former IJCLP lead editor Boris Rotenberg.

This year's writing competition will feature an award sponsored by Kaltura=
=97*
www.kaltura.com* <http://www.kaltura.com/>.  The Kaltura Prize will be
granted to the author of the best submission on a topic relating to digital
media remix, open-source business models, collaborative production,
democratic culture, or related themes which speak to the identity of Kaltur=
a
as the world's first open-source video platform.  The Kaltura Prize will
include a cash stipend of $1,000 and funding for travel to and
accommodations in Geneva to accept the award at the A2K3 conference.

*Conference Description*

The first and second A2K conferences at Yale Law School focused on building
and mobilizing coalitions for Access to Knowledge.  A2K3=97which will be
hosted by the Yale ISP and partner organizations in Geneva,
Switzerland=97offers the opportunity to take the discussion about Access to
Knowledge into the mainstream of international policy-making in the areas o=
f
intellectual property, telecommunications, international development, human
rights, international trade, and the information society.

Panel topics for this year's conference include:

   - The Development Agenda at WIPO
   - A2K and Human Rights
   - A2K and Global Trade
   - Research and Capacity-Building for A2K
   - Prize Mechanisms for Innovation
   - Copyright Exceptions and Limitations
   - Media and Communication Rights
   - Open Business Models
   - Technologies for Access

*Submission Guidelines*

Submissions for the writing competition must be received by June 30, 2008.
All submissions should be written in English and submitted in .doc, .rtf,
.odt, or .pdf format. Submissions should conform to academic citation
standards, be no longer than 15,000 words, and must include an abstract of
no longer than 250 words.
