Hello,
We met during diverses events as WSIS, TCAD conf in Paris,
a2k in Yale, and some other places. I wish to alert
your attention on something that's happening, I
think will be for your interest.
---------------
Freeing scientific publications, opening labs, acting for the
knowledge commons, bringing conscience and responsability
during the scientific process : a new alliance is
occuring between scientists and the whole society.
We can go further, and introduce a new challenge :
"how can scientists fullfill the needs of social
movements to deal with the new place of science and
technics in our globalized world" ?
For the knowledge ecology, to ascertain that new
discoveries will be shared, particularly with poor
people and poor countries, it's time to renew the
links between scientists, their organisations and
action models, and the others social movements.
To protect nature and social linking, to avoid war
and to fight pandemic, we need also to detach science
from markets and powers, especially monopolist markets
and military powers.
The World Social Forum is a good place for such
an encounter. There, with the whole diversity of social
movements of the world, we can exchange points of view and
draft a perspective that aim to protect the planet and human
rights. We need to draw a conception of research, from funding
to sharing results, that avoid submission to market and
monopolies, but call for a world-wide social responsability.
The Call for such an event to occur is on the web :

I hope you will support it. May be as individuals
or as associations, journals, institutions,...
This call is the first step. Many conferences will occurs during
such an event, and the participants can propose their
opinion to build the program of the Forum science and democracy.
Hope we met during this process.
