South Centre “Policy Brief 8” on the Proposed Broadcasting and
Cablecasting Treaty

Geneva, Friday 8 June 2007

The South Centre, an intergovernmental organization of developing
countries, has published a Policy Brief on the proposed WIPO Treaty on the
Protection of Broadcasting and Cablecasting Organizations. The Policy
Brief is based on a comprehensive research study published by the South
Centre in January 2007 that examines the impact of the proposed treaty on
developing countries.

The Policy Brief is available in English, French and Spanish on the South
Centre’s website at www.southcentre.org.

The research paper, written by Viviana Munoz of the Innovation and Access
to Knowledge (IAKP) Programme and Andrew Chegue Waitara, a Researcher at
the Plato Institute in Nairobi, is also available on South Centre's
