Dear Paola: The A2K movement has many strands that are only slowly being
unified. Here's some info on one strand: open access (OA) to
peer-reviewed research literature.
Open Access Overview
http://www.earlham.edu/~peters/fos/overview.htm
(my introduction to OA for those who are new to the concept)
Major manifestoes:
--Budapest Open Access Initiative (February 2002)
http://www.soros.org/openaccess/read.shtml
--Bethesda Statement on Open Access Publishing (June 2003)
http://www.earlham.edu/~peters/fos/bethesda.htm
--Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and
Humanities (October 2003)
http://www.zim.mpg.de/openaccess-berlin/berlindeclaration.html
Timeline of the open access movement

(my chronology of the landmark events)
Good luck in your research,
Peter
