Mark your calendars!

Date: Wednesday, August 8, 2007
Time: 12:30 - 2:00pm
Venue: KEI, 1621 Connecticut Avenue, Suite 500, Washington, DC 20009

Knowledge Ecology International (KEI) is hosting a brownbag lunch
seminar to discuss the sale of sales in the American corporation
Westinghouse to a Kazakhstan state-run company Kazatomprom and the
transfer of nuclear technology to Kazakhstan.

Upon completion of the transaction, Kazatomprom could acquire the
technology to produce uranium hexafluoride or =93hex=94, which is used to
enrich uranium to produce feed for nuclear reactors, and also for
nuclear weapons. According to Nucleonics Week, Kazakhstan has also
expressed an interest in acquiring centrifuges for this purpose.

According to numerous news reports, the government in Kazakhstan, which
approved the elimination of term limits to allow President Nazarbayev to
become =93president-for-life=94, is engaged in rigging elections, censorshi=
p
and harassment of the news media, wrongful imprisonment and torture of
political opponents, and there are well known allegations concerning the
murder of regime critics. The sale will undermine efforts to limit
nuclear proliferation, and will give sensitive nuclear technology to a
brutal, repressive and undemocratic regime, which may lack long-term
legitimacy and stability.

If you would like to attend this seminar, please RSVP your name, title,
organization to malini.aisola@keionline.org or call 202 332 2670.
