The Chair of the General Assembly, Ambassador Manalo has suspended
discussions on the item of the protection of broadcasting organizations
after 40 interventions. Here is a brief tally of the different country
or regional grouping positions. Amb. Manalo has tasked Jukka Liedes
with holding informal consultations this afternoon to bridge a
consensus. Amb. Manalo will be holding concurrent informal
consultations on the development agenda.
Here is a brief extract of the Venezuelan intervention:
Veneuzuela:
We would like to submit its concern (because of what happened in the
15th SCCR), There was a total lack of consensus and plurality,
following not much of a discussion of a text that is full of
inconsistencies. We are concerned that the NGOs were not given the
right to speak. Under these conditions, we believe that there is a high
probability to fail. It is necessary to achieve a result in a more
democratic manner.
