I am writing to invite you to a presentation of Ofcom research in to
Consumer Protection on the Internet, taking place in the Grimond Room of
Portcullis House, the House of Commons next Tuesday October 17th, at 4pm.



Apologies for the late notice of this event. It was originally intended to
be a briefing for Parliamentarians only but Ofcom has now decided to
extend the invitation to other interested parties. Please feel free to
pass on to anyone else you feel may be interested in attending.



Jeremy Olivier, Head of Multimedia at Ofcom, will be giving the
presentation.



John Robertson MP (Chairman of the All Party Communications Group) and
Charles Hendry MP (Vice Chairman of the All Party Internet Group) are
confirmed attendees.



Ofcom recntly published research that reveals the importance of
effective industry self-regulation and consumer empowerment in
addressing consumer protection issues on the Internet. The report
examines the broad range of processes used in the UK and other countries
to address a number of consumer protection issues online, including
illegal or harmful Internet content.



The presentation will seek to inform attendees of Ofcom's position on
consumer protection in an area that has rapidly become an essential part
of our professional and personal lives. There will of course be the
opportunity to ask questions on the report's content.
