INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

40. The Heads of State and Government underscored the importance of
incorporating a development dimension in international discussions
concerning intellectual property, as a means to make a meaningful
contribution to the economic and social aspects within developing
countries, and to preserve policy spaces necessary for ensuring access
to knowledge, promoting public goals in the fields of health and
culture, and a sustainable environment. In this context, they welcomed
the continued discussions on the establishment of a =93Development Agenda
in the World Intellectual Property Organization=94 and reaffirmed the
importance of the continuation of these discussions to ensure the
effective incorporation of the development dimension in all its bodies.
