Its worth looking at a new report from the UK National Consumer Council on
the 'User innovation revolution' Its in very accessible language with
interesting examples.

< SNIP> 'With case study examples from mountain bikes to social services,
This report highlights where consumers have helped to lead business
innovation, creating new products or services that are more tailored to
customer needs. Highly acclaimed author, Charles Leadbeater, concludes
that companies can work more effectively with user-innovators by following
six basic rules...'
It also highlights how too stringent IP protection will kill off user
driven innovation, and how such innovation can be a key driver of economic
wealth creation, so government policy makers need to take a new look at
their innovation models.
