IMPORTANT - Gowers Review of Intellectual Property

This is an important Review of UK copyright law coordinated by HM Treasury.=
 The main focus is on patents and copyright. However, copyright and patents=
 have strong international dimensions and a number of issues will concern t=
he position the UK takes with regard to issues concerning supranational (ie=
. EU) and international law on intellectual property which affect everybody=
. E.g. one special area Gowers will look at is whether the UK should seek t=
o get the term of protection for sound recordings and performances in sound=
 recordings extended from 50-95 years (this would have to be at European le=
vel).  I don't think there is any bar on the Commission receiving responses=
 to the call for evidence from people outside the UK on appropriate issues =
affecting EU and international IPR legislation.  Please note that the empha=
sis is on evidenced based argument!  Deadline for responses is 21st April 2=
006. They hope to report in autumn 2006.
