The undersigned organizations are writing to thank you for sponsoring
the Federal Research Public Access Act of 2006, S. 2695.
As public interest groups, we greatly appreciate your work on this
very important issue. The Federal Research Public Access Act will
help to ensure that the public=92s interest is well-served by providing
access to the results of research funded by federal tax dollars. S.
2695 provides a critical mechanism that will allow the results of our
investment in science to be shared among collaborating scientists,
physicians, students, patients, and all other members of the public.
The Act constitutes a major step forward in providing all
stakeholders in the scientific enterprise, including the public,
access to scientific information, in effect accelerating discovery
and innovation.
S. 2695 acknowledges the unprecedented opportunity provided by
networked technology to dramatically advance the collection and
exchange of information for the benefit of not only the research
community but society as a whole.
Once again, please accept our sincere thanks for your work in
introducing this important piece of legislation.
