time between US FDA approval and patent only 2.2 years for HIV/AIDS drugs
-- For 14 HIV/AIDS drugs, time between US FDA
approval and patent award is 2.2 years
We have put together some data on the time between
US FDA approvals and the date (of award) for the
US patent on the 14 HIV/AIDS drugs current approved
for marketing in the USA.
The average period of time between FDA approval and
patent award is short -- only 2.2 years for the 14
drugs. Indeed, on two occasions (AZT and Ritonavir),
the FDA approval occurred before the patent was
awarded.
