NEVIRAPINE, Oral Suspension version is off patent

According to the FDA Orange Book, Nevirapine is off patent, or at least
the Oral Suspension version.

The tablet form is protected by US patent 5,366,972, which expires
2011.

I'm not sure why one version is protected and the other isn't, but it
would appear that the active ingredient itself is off patent, which
would explain in part why it is so much cheaper than AZT. If anyone has
better information on this, please let me know.
